EMDR online
EMDR can be delivered very successfully online. Research so far has demonstrated that online EMDR is an effective and safe alternative to in-person EMDR for treating PTSD, with comparable outcomes in symptom reduction and patient satisfaction.
I deliver online EMDR using a secure online tool called Bilateral Base. The tool runs in your web browser, so there is no software to download. It is easy to use and can run on most devices with a webcam and microphone, as long as you have a good enough broadband and wifi connection (we would check this out before agreeing to work online). Bilateral Base provides flexible bilateral stimulation, using a virtual lightbar, auditory beeps and tactile tappers, so that your individual needs and preferences can be accommodated. Please note that if you would like to use tactile tappers, you will need to purchase these through me at an additional cost.
Attending an online EMDR session on Bilateral Base is as simple clicking on a link at the agreed appointment time, and selecting your camera and audio settings.
As with anything new, it may take a little time to adapt to working online, but once we have settled in, online EMDR feels very much like EMDR in person.
It is important that you have a safe, private and confidential space to work from and that you allow sufficient time after the session for you to gather yourself before re-entering daily life.
